What is High Gloss UV Coating?

UV coatings are applied to a printed piece, then rapidly dried and cured by exposure to ultraviolet light which hardens the glossy coating. Because of the ultra-high-gloss nature, this coating will make high-contrast images and photographs “pop” on printed pieces. UV coatings provide the highest gloss finish versus other types of coatings.

Printing Tip: UV coating is best for pieces that are intended to stay flat and not fold or pieces with a light color at the fold. Folded mail pieces may potentially crack at the fold due to the thickness and hardness of the coating, which can be noticeable on dark ink. Proper scoring and/or smart usage of art placement will help prevent visible cracking of the coating at the fold(s).
